HIDDEN GEMS
“HIDDEN GEMS” 2024
11’ x 17’
1 west pratt st Baltimore, md
commissioned as part of brush mural fest
This mural, designed around the theme of "Hidden Gems," explores the often overlooked gems within one's environment and culture. Inspired by the hidden berries that can be foraged in Druid Hill Park and the gardens many people maintain despite not having their own yards, it features native plants and resilient species that thrive despite challenging climates. Two children, based on portraits of children in Baltimore and Palestine, are depicted accessing these hidden gems, connecting with their natural surroundings and ancestral wisdom. The mural invites viewers to recognize and appreciate the often-overlooked beauty and resilience that surrounds us in Baltimore and beyond.
This project was greatly enhanced through the assistance of hiro hubbard, mansi yaduka, ian white and donna r. omata.
